Kaap Koffie was founded by Huib Koel

A boatbuilder and entrepreneur dedicated to sustainable innovation. He is the creator of the Kaap de Groene Hoop shipyard at the NDSM Wharf in Amsterdam, and also the owner of De Ceuvel, a renowned sustainable hotspot in Amsterdam Noord, home to a circular café-restaurant and a floating eco-hotel.

During the Covid pandemic, Huib began converting the sailing vessel Ide Min into a cargo ship, reviving the tradition of wind-powered transport. One of the first products carried on this new route was coffee, and that’s how Kaap Koffie was born.

Sustainably grown by women farmers in Colombia and carried across the ocean by the wind, Kaap Koffie reflects Huib’s vision: a supply chain built on respect for people, nature, and the sea. It is the meeting point of craft, courage, and conscious trade, proof that exceptional coffee can travel the world without costing the earth.
